Condolence From: Mary Wong
Condolence: Shirley was a great supporter of new clubs and associations all around the country. She encouraged everyone to take part in every thing - and to be a contributor. On 4/29/10 I happened to find the first letter that she sent to us, dated May 28, 1988, telling us about all the support that we have in getting our club started. I posted the letter on my facebook page. It is pure Shirley - in one page telling us just about all we needed to know and putting us in touch with all the help we would need! Greg and I are so glad we got to see Shirley at the recent US Nationals. I remember the first nationals I attended. It was at Paramount where Shirley and I met for the first time and before I knew it, I was a place picker. She would not hear anyone's protests of not being able to "do" something. We carry that attitude with us today. With fond memories... Mary and Greg Wong

I'm know she she called out my number in many, many races. I had the pleasure of judging with her at the 2009 Nationals in West Allis and really got a taste of the sport from the other side. Thank you Shirley for all you did for Speed Skating. Jim and family....your family was blessed to have such a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

Condolence From: Barbara and Don Effinger
Condolence: Dear Jim and Family: We were shocked today to read of Shirley's passing! It doesn't seem possible. She was always so full of life. If there is ever anything we can do to help, don't hesitate to ask. When Becky told little Annalise that Shirley had passed away she said, "I really liked her. She made the best jam!" Don has been ill for the past two weeks with vertigo but if he's up to it we will see you at the visitation on Thursday, Jim! Take care and God Bless! Your old Hermit's Cove neighbors: Barb and Don Effinger

Condolence From: Elise Brinich
Condolence: Jim, my heart goes out to you. I am stunned by the news of Shirley's death. Her obituary so accurately described her zest for LIVING; she was always so lively and alive in all she did. Both of you have been solid fixtures in the speed skating world, and are forever ingrained in my memories of my life as a speed skater. The memory of Shirley will live on in many, and I am definitely one of those who will forever carry her memory and feel complete happiness in having known her, and heavy sadness in the realization that she's gone from us. Love, Elise Brinich
