Obituary for Bella Ann Girard (Ottoson)

Bella Ann Ottoson Girard, age 82 died peacefully after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s
Disease on July 3rd at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility with her family by her side.

Bella was born on July 5, 1933 in Pembine, WI to Edmund and Alice (Jenkins) Ottoson. She graduated from Vulcan High School as the class Salutatorian. Following graduation she went to work as a Secretary for the school.

Bella married her high school sweetheart, Duane Girard on October 25, 1952.

Bella had a very strong faith. She was active in everything her children were involved in. She was a Cub Scout
Leader, Girl Scout Leader, CCD Teacher, 4-H Leader, Band Parents, PTA, and her kids made sure she baked cookies for every school holiday party. She created a home that family and friends wanted to be a part of.
In 1984, when Duane retired, Bella retired too and they headed south to Brooksville, FL for the winters. They
traveled to many states enjoying the company of each other and their family and friends. While living with
Alzheimer’s Disease, they taught us strength, courage, and unconditional love.
Bella is survived by her husband, Duane, of Lake Linden, her seven children: Dan (June) Girard of Lake Linden, Wanda (Eric) Frimodig of Calumet, Dennis (Helen) Girard of Marquette, Mary Olszewski of Marietta, GA; Nancy Downs of Eagar, AZ; Mark (Kathryn) Girard of Kingsford, and Beth (Martin) Clark of Marquette.
