Obituary for Weldon James White (White)

Weldon James White (White)
Weldon White, age 94, a resident of Calumet passed away peacefully at his home on Friday September 2, 2016 with his family by his side.

He was born on April 5, 1922 to Albert and Mildred (Rowe) White in Chassell, Michigan.

He attended the local area schools and later worked for the CCC Camps during The Great Depression. Weldon served in the United States Army during World War II and retired from the Calumet and Hecla Mining Company in 1968 where he worked as a repairman.

Weldon married Genevieve Rowe on December 14, 1949 at the Calumet United Methodist Church and together they had seven children.

Weldon loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was an excellent bowler and played until the age of 92. He excelled at other sports such as ping-pong, horseshoes, and billiards where he was known as "Dead Eye Weldon". Weldon also enjoyed watching all sports and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan.

He was a lover of all animals and spent a large part of his free time building birdhouses for his family. He expanded his hobby and built numerous birdhouses (over 80) for the Calumet Golf Course, which still can be seen in the trees today. He was always known for a good joke or story.

Weldon was a life-long member of the Calumet United Methodist Church alongside his family.

Weldon is preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter Janine, a son Daniel, brother Harry, sister Margaret Gibbs, and a son-in-law William Darnell Sr.

Weldon is survived by his wife Genevieve, 3 sons: Jim (Gloria) White of Niagara, Wisconsin, Albert White of Calumet, and

David (Lori) White of Calumet, 2 daughters: Jacqueline Darnell of Calumet, and Susie (Al “Chipper”) Utzman of Calumet, 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday September 10, 2016 at 12:00 pm at the Calumet United Methodist Church with Pastor Jayme Palaszeski to officiate. Friends may call at the Calumet United Methodist Church from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday September 10, 2016.

Burial with Military Honors will be held in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet around 2:00 after the luncheon.
