Obituary for Douglas Paul Laplander

Lake Linden February 1, 2017

Douglas Paul Laplander, 63, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at his apartment in Lake Linden.

Doug Paul was born on April 23, 1953 in Florida Location and attended the local schools, until moving with his parents at age 14 to Bootjack. He attended Lake Linden Hubbell High School in 1967, and then later graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1971. He attended the former Suomi College in Hancock. In 1977 Doug enlisted in the Air Force and served in Texas. After an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force he moved back to Bootjack. He worked for Community Mental Health until illness no longer made him employable. Paul was never married and had no children.



He was preceded in death by his father Uno A. Laplander on July 15, 1978, and his mother Elsie E. (Lindquist) Laplander on November 21, 1999. His brother Leslie Laplander and his sister Elaine Dings.



Also preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents; Isaac J. Laplander in 1936 and Hilja (Wuori) Laplander in 1976. And Maternal grandparents; Einard I. Lindquist in 1964 and Hannah (Kumlin) Lindquist in 1958.



He is survived by one brother Donald Laplander of Florida Location, and a sister Barbara Haataja of Centennial Heights; an uncle Kenneth Laplander of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; aunt Dolores (Laplander) Rooney of Dousman, Wisconsin. Also Surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, and great nephews.



In his younger days, he was an avid fisherman and blueberry picker. Doug Paul was able to share in an infinite love and friendship that was guided by his compassion for God’s word thru his savior Jesus Christ.



Friends may visit the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home beginning Monday February 6, 2017 at 10:00 AM until the time of service. Funeral services will be held at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home on Monday at 12:00 noon with Pastor Bruce Nolen and Pastor Tony Laidlaw to officiate.

A luncheon will follow at the Siskiwit Reception Hall.

Spring burial will be at the Lake View Cemetery.

In lieu of expressions of sympathy, the deceased wishes memorials be given to the Rice Memorial Clinic at 901 West Memorial Drive, in Houghton, Michigan 49913, or to Copper Country Community Mental Health at www.cccmh.org.
