Obituary for Ronald Mathieson Sibbald

Ronald "Scotty" Sibbald, age 81, of Laurium passed away on December 17, 2017 at the Omega House in Houghton.
Ron was born to Margaret Sibbald on April 21, 1936 in New York City.
As an infant, they moved to his mother’s home in Glasgow, Scotland. There, he attended school until graduating in 1954.
In 1957, he moved to the US and joined the United States Air Force.
He married his late wife of 45 years, Barbara Ann McCormick on January 17, 1959 in Calumet.
In 1978 he retired from the Air Force and went to work for Michigan Tech for a number of years.
He was a former member of the Calumet Elks Club, and the Calumet-Keweenaw Sportsman’s Club.
Ron had a lifelong passion for nature, wildlife, watching hockey, and the Green Bay Packers. He especially enjoyed fishing, and had many fond memories of fishing in Montana, Canada, and the Great Lakes. Ron and his family enjoyed many summers at their cottage on Gratiot Lake. It was there that he was the most content, being surrounded by the peacefulness of the woods and water.
He was preceded in death by his wife, and mother.

Son: Kyle (Judy) Sibbald of Port Washington, Wisconsin
Grandchildren: Becky Richmond of Raleigh, North Carolina
Brad Chaltry of Flat Rock, Michigan
Elliot Chaltry of Grand Rapids, Michigan
Riley Biel of Island Lake, Illinois
Lara and Anna Sibbald of Port Washington, Wisconsin
Great-Grandchildren: Chatham and Sydney Chaltry of Flat Rock, Michigan
And 3 very special nieces.
A funeral service will be held at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 7:00 PM with the Copper Country Veterans performing.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until the time of service.
