Obituary for Robert Donald Tarvis

Robert D. Tarvis, 89, a resident of Mohawk passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 at GardenView Assisted Living and Memory Care in Calumet.

He was born on April 11, 1928 in Calumet, the son of Helen Tarvis.

He attended Calumet High School, at the age of 17 he enlisted with the United States Navy. He was enlisted during World War II.

After being honorably discharged from the United States Navy, Rob began working in the copper mines. He worked for Calumet and Hecla Mining Company and White Pine Copper Mine.

Following his career in the copper mines, he began working on iron ore boats for 12 years.

In 1955, he was united in marriage to Pearl Manninen, in Calumet.

Together Robert and Pearl enjoyed berry picking, and going for rides throughout the Keweenaw together.

Robert was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Fulton.

He is preceded in death by; his mom, Helen, his wife, Pearl, and his son, Anthony.

He is survived by:
His son: Gary Tarvis of Calumet
His daughter: Debra Parent of Green Bay

His grandchildren: Jennifer (Tony) Hatala, Steven Tarvis, Michael Tarvis, Sarah Abramson, Christina Parent, and Benjamin Parent

And numerous great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
