Carolyn Maria Danis, 60, a resident of Calumet, passed away on Saturday May 2, 2015 at her home on Seventh Street.

She was born on February 17, 1955 to her parents, Harold and Aili (Kangas) Barkell, in Royal Oak, Michigan. She attended Calumet High School, and graduated with the class of 1973.

On February 23, 1980 she was united in marriage to her husband, the late Michael Danis.

Carolyn worked mostly at Fraki’s Bakery, she also spent some time at The AmericInn but Carolyn's most rewarding job came from being a mom. Carolyn's deep love, her firm parental guidance and unconditional support for her four children helped each of them to become the incredibly solid men and women that they are today. Carolyn's love for children reached well beyond her own sons and daughters. For years Carolyn provided a warm and loving home for the children that she babysat. Lily Lammi, Abigail Rozman, and Sincere & Camden Brooks, were some of the kids who held an extra special place in her heart.

In her free time, she enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and she was an avid reader. Carolyn's vast knowledge of random facts never ceased to amaze those who knew her. No matter what the question, whether it be a five letter word for Robust or winter bird of northern Michigan, Carolyn had the answer on the tip of her tongue. Whenever her children had a question presented to them they knew that they could count on their mom to provide the answer."

Carolyn's sense of humor was next to none. Her ability to laugh and to find the humor in just about any situation helped her family through many hard times. She always had a witty comment about something, it was never a just a hello or wow good job she would always include a little something to make you laugh.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael who passed away in 2013; her parents; and brother Stephen Barkell.

Carolyn is survived by and will be deeply missed by her four children:

Jennifer (Paul) Kilpela of Calumet; Lindsay Danis of Calumet; Christopher (Natalie) Danis of Ishpeming; and Kevin (Rebecca) Danis of Vandenberg AFB, in California

As well as the apples of her eye, her grandchildren: Landon Shemenkowski & Aili Kilpela

Carolyn is also survived by her Brother: Leeland (Nancy) Barkell of Laurium.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday May 7, 2015 at 7:00 pm at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet, with Pastor Bob White to officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.
