Obituary for Ruth Sylvia Larson (Kesti)
Ruth Sylvia Larson, 89, a former resident of Atlantic Mine and Arbor Green in Houghton passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility.
She was born on December 27, 1928 in Paavola and raised in Laurium. A daughter of the late Jacob and Martha (Kontio) Kesti. Sylvia attended Calumet High School and graduated with the Class of 1946.
On August 12, 1950 she was united in marriage to Raymond Larson on the Larson family farm in Onnela.
Aside from being a mother and raising 10 children, Sylvia worked as a secretary for Farmers & Merchants and Finnish Mutual/ Northern Mutual Insurance Company retiring in 1986.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Larson, daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Erwin Massie, two son-in-laws, Brian Moore, Brett Strang, four great grandchildren, sisters, Anna, Martha, Senia, Evelyn, Hilma, and Helen, and 3 brothers, Emil, Matt and Edward.
Surviving are her children, Judy (Dave) Nordstrom of Atlantic Mine, Peter (Janet) Larson of Atlantic Mine, Gordon (Peggy) Larson of Atlantic Mine, Janet Larson of Lake Linden, Kathryn Moore of Little Traverse Bay, Margaret (Gary) Kangas of Atlantic Mine, Donna Strang of Houghton, Sarah (Dan) Aho of Houghton and Jack (Nancy) Larson of Calumet; 56 grandchildren, 171 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday December 26, 2018 at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Houghton from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday December 27, 2018.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday December 27, 2018 at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Houghton with Pastor David Taivalkoski to officiate.
Burial will take place in the Liminga Cemetery.
