Obituary for Philip Carl Raisanen

Calumet

Philip C. Raisanen, 73, a resident of Boundary Street in Calumet passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday June 22, 2019.



He was born on October 11, 1945 in Laurium a son of the late Eino and Bertha (Makkonen) Raisanen .



He graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1964. He then attended Eastern Michigan University receiving his Masters Degree. Phil then served as a Probation Officer in Detroit followed by careers in the Veterans Administration and Department of the Army in California, Guam and Korea as a behavioral counseling therapist.



Philip was a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1968 while an aircrew member on an EC47. He was a life member of the VFW at large and a cofounder of the Guam chapter of the Vietnam Veterans Association.



In December of 1979 he was united in marriage to the former Lynda Juntti and she preceded him in death in September of 1991.



He was preceded in death by his brother Ronald J. Raisanen.



Surviving are his brother Gary (Miriam) Raisanen of Jacksonville, FL and his sister Mary Lou Goddard of San Diego, California.



The Copper Country Veterans will conduct military honors of Phil on Saturday June 29, 2019 at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet at 11:00 AM.



Visitation will be from 10-11:00 AM on Saturday.
