Dorothy Mae (Langen) Jaaskelainen, age 92, a resident of Keweenaw Pines in Mohawk and formerly of Raymbaultown passed away on Sunday August 18, 2019 at Aspirus Hospital in Laurium following a short illness.

She was born on November 5, 1926 in Calumet the daughter of George and Hilda (Nelson) Langen. She was a graduate of Calumet High School with the class of 1944.

On September 14, 1946, she married Tarmo Jaaskelainen. He preceded her in death in. 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister Pearl Edith and brother George.

Locally Dorothy worked in the former Mohawk School kitchen and at Langdon’s Market in Kearsarge. She left the area in 1976 to join her husband who was working in Gillette, Wyoming. While there she worked at a convenience store and a shoe store. Upon their retirements they returned to her childhood home in Raymbaultown.

Dorothy was an avid reader and always had a jigsaw puzzle going on her card table. She always looked forward to working the daily crossword puzzle in the Gazette. When her health was better she enjoyed traveling or just going for rides. She also loved going out to eat. Mother had a remarkable memory for always remembering everyones birthday.

Dorothy was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Keweenaw in Mohawk.

Surviving are her Children:

The family wishes to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at Aspirus that took such good care of mother, as well as supporting the family. Thanks to the workers from Community Action that came to her apartment to assist her( Sherry, Sandy, Chris, Kim).

Mom also appreciated the delivery of her meals on wheels daily and their care and concern (Dale and others) and rarely missed a week seeing her hairdresser Corinna who always made her look and feel beautiful.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests memorials be given to: Bethany Lutheran Church of Keweenaw 85 6th street Mohawk, MI 49950 or Community Action Agency 926 Dodge Street Houghton, MI 49931
