Obituary for Kenneth Eugene Manninen

Kenneth E. Manninen, 89, a resident of Calumet passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. He was born on January 1, 1931 in Allouez, Michigan, son of Charles and Elna Manninen.
He spent 4 years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from February 1948 to February
1952.

On his return to the Copper Country, he married Dorothy Kumpula, whom he had met while home on leave in 1950.
He worked for the copper mines in Calumet, White Pine, and Hibbing Taconite in Minnesota. While in White Pine, Ken coached youth hockey for many years. After retirement they enjoyed traveling to visit their children and spending the winters in Florida and also attending a family reunion in Kuusamo, Finland.
Kenneth was preceded in death by Dorothy, his wife of 60 years, his parents, Charles and Elna Manninen, and brothers, Robert, Clayton, and Marvin.
He is survived by his daughters, Judy (Tim) Losinski of Red Wing, MN, Mary Schoeder of Rockford, Michigan, sons, Marvin (Kathleen) of Laurium, Michigan, Steven (Debra) of Virginia, MN, Brian (Mary) of Sun City Center, FL, Michael (Suzanne) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Scott (Paula) of Ishpeming, Ml, one sister, Arlene (Don) Harvey of Cape Coral, Florida, 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Molly (Chuck) Leffler of Laurium, Lois Manninen of Alpharetta, Georgia, Stella Mottonen of Lac La Belle,
Mary Kumpula of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Beatrice Kumpula of Round Lake Beach, Illinois, and
brothers-in-law, Don Kumpala of Mohawk, Phillip Hill of National Mine, many nieces and nephews, and also his dear friend, Shirley Clark of Onnula Location.
The family would like to thank the staff of Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital for their professionalism and care of Ken during his passing.
A private graveside service will be held at the Lake View Cemetery, with a memorial service planned in the spring of 2021.
