Obituary for Kevin James Roberts

Kevin James Roberts

Kevin James Roberts, 61, of Sarasota, Florida formerly of Calumet, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack at his home on Friday, April 16.

Kevin was born on February 21, 1960, to James and Karen (Aho) Roberts in Calumet, Michigan. He attended the Calumet schools and graduated in 1978 from Calumet High School. Kevin worked as a cook at various local restaurants and then headed west with friends, working at an oil refinery in Wyoming.

Returning from Wyoming, he was a chef at several Midwest restaurants before moving to Florida where he met the love of his life, Melissa (Missy) Ireland. They were married on 4/4/04. In 2005, they welcomed Marissa (Sissa) into the world. Missy and Sissa were the light of his life.

Kevin was a chef at several Florida restaurants and then became the manager of the three restaurants at the Sarasota Kennel Club.

Kevin will be remembered for his hilarious stories of his adventures/misadventures and unique self-deprecating sense of humor. The Copper Country always held a special place in his heart, and he cherished the trips when he, Missy, and Sissa came to visit family in the Keweenaw. The family home in Osceola was his “home away from home”.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Jim in 2013 and Karen in 2016; parents-in-law, Dan and Marlene Ireland, and brothers-in-law: Keith Codere and Dan Harter.

He is survived by his brother Bruce (Tracy) of Marquette; sisters Christine (Glenn) Patrick of Mohawk;
and Laurie Harter of Calumet; his very special aunts and uncles, Keido and Joanne Klobuchar of Calumet and Richie and JoAnn Aho of Austin, MN and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

His laughter and mischievousness will be greatly missed by his family and all that knew him.
Heaven only knows what he’s up to now.

A private memorial service will be held later this summer in the Keweenaw.

The Jones Funeral Home in Sarasota, Florida and the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home are assisting the family with arrangements.
