Joel Keranen

Joel is a graduate of Lake Linden Hubbell High School, class of 1994.

He attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago and received his degree of Mortuary Science in 1997.

He has been with the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home since June of 1994, and in July of 2003 purchased the Erickson-Crowley business from James R. Laurinaho and his father-in-law, James M. Jukuri. In 2013, Joel purchased Peterson Funeral Services from Karl Peterson to become the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home.

Joseph Panijan

Joe is a graduate of Calumet High School, Class of 2011.

He attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science, and received his degree of Mortuary Science in 2015.

He has been with the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home since December of 2012. Currently he is a member of the CLK Rotary Club, Keweenaw Lions Club, the Calumet Township Fire Department, and the Treasurer of the Calumet Wolverines.

Joe is a parishioner of the Sacred Heart Church of Calumet.

Karl Peterson

Karl is is a graduate of Calumet High School, class of 1976.

He attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago and received his degree of Mortuary Science in 1990.

He bought the  Peterson Funeral Home from his father in 1999 and then in April 2013, Karl joined the staff of Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home.

James Laurinaho

James Laurinaho is a graduate of Calumet High School, the class of 1965. He attended the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science, and he received his degree of Mortuary Science in 1969.

James bought the Crowley Funeral Home at 427 8th Street, Calumet in June of 1972. He owned and operated the funeral home until May of 1981 when he combined his business with life long friend, James Jukuri, of the Erickson Funeral Home.

Joe Enrietti

Joe Enrietti was born in Mohawk on June 9,1925. He graduated from Calumet High School in 1944, after school he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during WWII ,where he served as a tail-gunner on B24 bombers and was stationed with the 8th Air Force in England.

After the war he worked for C&H as a security guard for 20 years until the mines closed.

He then went into the retail furniture business first with Gately's Furniture in Calumet until the business burnt down and closed. He went on to work for Calumet Furniture for many years eventually buying the business. Joe operated the business until 1995 when he retired.

In his retirement years Joe has been on the staff of the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home serving as hearse driver and assisting in all funerals.

James Jukuri -- Deceased

James Jukuri is a graduate of Calumet High School, the class of 1964. He attended Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and received his degree of Mortuary Science in 1968.

James bought the Erickson Funeral Home in June of 1975, and he owned and operated the funeral home until May of 1981 when he combined his business with life long friend and owner of Crowley Funeral Home, James Laurinaho. Together, they built the current funeral home located on Pine Street, Calumet.

James passed away on May 21, 2010.

J. Gustaf Erickson

J. Gustaf Erickson was born on February 10, 1911 in Laurium .

He graduated from Calumet High School in 1929. He was a graduate of the American Academy of Mortuary Science in New York City on June 30, 1948, and in October of 1948 he opened the Erickson Funeral Home at 210 8th Street, Calumet. He operated it until 1975 when he retired and sold the business to James Jukuri.

On May 10, 2001 J. Gus Erickson died at his winter home in Stuart, Florida. He is buried in Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.

Edward J. Crowley

Edward J. Crowley was born on February 11, 1918 in Baltic. He was a graduate of Jeffers High School. He was also a graduate of Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science.

In 1952, Edward bought the Shea Funeral home on 5th street in Calumet, and he began operating it as Shea/Crowley Funeral Home. In 1956, he moved the business to 427 8th street, the former Vertin residence, and renamed it the Crowley Funeral Home.

Edward Crowley died June 16, 1971 and is buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Eagle Harbor. In June of 1972, after Edward's death, the business was sold to James Laurinaho.

GORDON PETERSON

Peterson Funeral Home History

Otto Oscar Alexander Peterson originally established the Peterson Funeral Home in 1911. He was the son of Henrick and Ellvaria Peterson and came to the United States from Sweden at the age of five with his parents and sister, Maria. The business was originally called the O.O.A. (Otto Oscar Alexander) Peterson Funeral Home and was located on Pine Street in Calumet. Otto passed away in 1949 and his son, Gordon Arthur Peterson took over the business which he operated at that location, along with an ambulance service, he also operated the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock. In 1974 he sold the funeral home in Hancock and built the present-day Peterson Funeral Home on Mine Street in Calumet. Gordon retired in 1999 and his son Karl, became the owner and director of the family business. In April of 2013, Karl sold the business to Joel Keranen from the Erickson-Crowley Funeral Home and is on staff at what is now the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home on Pine Street in Calumet.
