Perpetual faith

Mary Murphy was a resident in the assisted living facility in Calumet at the same time as my mother, who preceded Mary in death. I was lucky to participate in a home mass in her apartment there while visiting. My mother delighted in her company, the rosary services and the storytelling--an affliction Mary may have acquired from her adopted Irish status, but which all the ladies excelled in. When the market crashed in 2008, Mary, Mrs. Steck, and my mother reflected on the lessons of the past, with Steck saying sagely, 'I remember when the market crashed before; I was in college.' It seems to me the perpetual faith and the timeless lessons of history secretly tucked away in these care facilities is underutilized by our leaders today. I can only say that I took some confidence in their lessons and stories of survival and endurance back to Washington with me that fall. I will never forget the triune wisdom and mirth of Mary, Mother and Mrs. Steck. No rush, but I do look forward to what their heavenly influences may now conjur up for us all. Godspeed Mary. Enjoy the comfort of heaven and relief from earthly pain and troubles. You've certainly earned it in patience and good works. You will be missed.
