Barbara Savinen, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital.
Barbara was born on June 22, 1937 to Oscar and Agnes (Lauren) Kaikkonen in Laurium.
She attended local school in Gay and in Lake Linden.
She was united in marriage to David Savinen on January 30, 1956.
Together they lived in the Copper Country for a while and in the late 60s they moved out to Arizona. They lived in Arizona for 27 years returning to the Copper Country in 1995. Barbara enjoyed the company of friends and loved spending summertime in Gay.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Sisters, Joan Oila, and Betty Pepin, Brothers, Earl Kaikkonen, and Daughter Sue Ann Gariepy- Rastello.
Surviving are: Husband David
Sons: Paul (Terry) Savinen of Florence, AZ and David (Brenda) Savinen of Kearny, AZ
Grandchild: Joshua Savinen of Salt Lake City, UT
2 great-grandchildren
Sister: Janet Thurman of Phoenix, AZ
Son-in-law: Steve Rastello of Laurium
Brother-in-law: Gordon Pepin of Show Low, AZ
And numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held this spring in the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek.
